چکیده

This study is an attempt to unravel the infection pattern of the Caryophyllaeid tapeworm, Adenoscolex oreini and its association with water quality, planktonic copepods and health traits of fish in a highly stressed lake. Prevalence differed significantly (P < 0·05) among different fish species with highest infection recorded in Schizothorax niger (% = 36·74) compared to Schizothorax esocinus (% = 15·7). Within-lake trophic gradient affected the infection pattern as prevalence of A. oreini was significantly higher (44·62%, P= 0·0001) at hypereutrophic site as compared to least eutrophic site (8·01%). The data suggest that spatial variation in the intensity ofA. oreini corresponded to the variation in the abundance of planktonic copepods. The density of Cyclops scutifer was positively correlated with the prevalence of tapeworm. Results indicate that the health condition, which was reflected by condition factor and gonadosomatic index, was lower in parasitized fish, and there seems to be synergistic effect of eutrophication and parasitism on fish health. Linear regression coefficients showed that the health indices were significantly (P< 0·05) predicted by infection intensity. It is concluded from the results that within-lake pollution gradient affects the infection pattern, density of intermediate host and health attributes of fish, and therefore these finding will lead us to elucidate the predictors responsible for decline of health of fish in highly stressed water bodies.

Descriptive study of Fascioliasis in Mazandaran province from seasonal

Introduction: About 2.400.000 human cases in 61 countries and 180000000 people at Fascioliasis infection risk, show the importance of human aspects of Fascioliasis around the world. In the north of our country (Iran) huge outbreaks of Fascioliasis have been seen and up to 10000 people have been infected with Fascioliasis in one of these outbreaks. So this study tries to show better criteria a...

Serological Evaluation of Experimental Toxoplasma gondii Infection in Cats by Using Immunoblotting Based on an Affinity Purified Surface Antigen

Toxoplasma gondii is an apicomplexan parasite that infects human and almost all warm-blooded animals. The life cycle of the parasite includes an asexual reproduction in intermediate hosts (Mammals and birds) and a sexual reproduction in definitive hosts (Felidae). Cats are both the intermediate and the definitive host for T. gondii. The aim of this study was to investigate anti-T. gondii antibo...

Assessment of aquatic environmental quality using gyrodactylus sp. as a living probe: parasitic biomonitoring of ecosystem health

Biological indicators are species that can be employed to monitor environmental quality and ecosystem health. Different groups of organisms such as plants, animals, bacteria and parasites regularly produce certain molecular signal in response to changes in their environmental milieu. Parasites are important tools for providing wealth of information on physicochemical quality, environmental stre...

Metacercariae of Clinostomum schizothoraxi Kaw, 1950 (Digenea: Clinostomatidae) in Carassius carassius (Linnaeus) under different environmental conditions.

This report addresses the possible impacts of local habitat characteristics on the metacercariae of Clinostomum schizothoraxi Kaw, 1950 infecting crucian carp, Carassius carassius (Linnaeus), from three lakes in Kashmir. The lakes chosen encompass an extremely wide gradient in trophic status--Manasbal (less polluted and mesotrophic), Dal (moderately polluted and eutrophic) and Anchar (strongly ...
